Samuel Berthod was born in 1973 in Paris.

As a tireless and insatiable traveler through various musical worlds, Samuel BERTHOD has forged an unique profile among concert clarinettists, approaching with equal happiness fields as diverse as those of classical, contemporary, jazz, klezmer & Balkan, electro, arrangement and composition.

He began the clarinet in Paris with Gérard Gosselin at the Aubervilliers-La Courneuve conservatory, then continued his studies with Alain Damiens. He also improved his skills in Germany (Frankfurt) with Armin Ziegler.

Giving his first concert as a soloist at the age of sixteen in the virtuoso quintet with string quartet by Karl Maria von Weber - as part of the Festival international du Périgord noir after only eight years of study - he has been seen as a young prodigy.

He performs as a soloist in Europe, Canada and Australia where he lives after the Seychelles, before moving to Sweden for living.

Among its partners on stages and on records, the Cape Verdean singer Cesaria Evora, the jazzmen Didier Lockwood (violin) and Thierry Eliez (piano), the string quartets Élysée, Diotima, Antares, Nocturnum (UA), Artende (FI), Weber (SE), Danish string quartet, the Lamoureux Orchestra, the Rivne Chamber Orchestra (UA), the Lviv festival orchestra (UA), the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra (CZ)...

He was a professor in Paris at the Rachmaninov and Berlioz conservatories, and since 2023 at the Halmstad Culture School in Sweden.
